Being In A Relationship Isn’t The Key To Happiness

In my colleague’s blog titled ‘A Man Isn’t A Destination’ some salient points were raised where being in a relationship is concerned, having shared the same sentiments as the author, Ruth-Ann Carr, I’ll be using my blog to expound on same.

To you people (females especially) sitting around waiting for Mr. or Mrs. Right to come along to make you happy and for you to start living your life, you need to wake up and smell the coffee, this will NEVER happen. Happiness starts from within, if you’re not making yourself happy, no other human being will.

Many of us believe that being in a relationship equates to happiness whereas the ultimate goal is to get married, start a family and live happily ever after. If that’s your belief, then hats off to you!

While I’ve been in relationships where I was happy, I’ve been in some that weren’t worth a dime. Like Ruth-Ann, I’ve also been single and discovered that during this time I was at my best. Nothing is better than self-love 🙂 Don’t be fooled, many persons are in relationships just for the sake of being in one, things may look pretty on the outside but they’re living a life of hell on the inside.

Don’t let anyone tell you that your ‘clock is ticking’ so you must get married and start a family. If you get married, that’s great but if not, life goes on. Besides marriage isn’t for everybody, not everyone is capable of dealing with the challenges associated with marriage. Marriage is a full time job that takes hard work, you’ve to invest in it to reap the benefits. If you’re not willing to do so, kindly leave it alone.

Instead of complaining about your single life, realize that in due time God will provide the right man or woman, so put yourself in preparation mode for him or her. Sex has been here since creation and its definitely not going anywhere so desist from selecting a random partner because you’re being led to believe a lie that your ‘clock is ticking’.

In the interim, create for yourself a bucket list and take time out to enjoy the things you love (as chances are you may never get to do them when the man/woman comes along), find a hobby, make new friends, visit new places and join social/service clubs.

For those of you who have no significant other, I leave you with these few words:

“Don’t get caught in the hype of marriage. It is not a need. Enjoy your single life and get to know yourself. If you are to get married you will be, but please don’t hunt it like a predator. It’s unbecoming. Love yourself and don’t compare your life to that of others. Pursue your goals and achieve them while being your best self. If a spouse comes along then make him/her a part of your journey or start a new one together.  But above all, don’t limit yourself, don’t make a spouse your destination”.

I am Laydee Sharmz saying ‘live the life you love while single, you may never enjoy it when in a relationship’. Blessings!
