Dear Supreme Ventures, You Ought To Be Ashamed

On the morning of May 22 while getting ready for work, my ears were subjected to a new Pick 3 ad which I found to be quite distasteful. Two days later, I’m still baffled by the thought that an advertising agency would seriously create an ad of that nature in their quest for a couple dollars and I’m still appalled that Supreme Ventures has accepted such atrociousness!
As for the ad, I get the concept that Supreme Ventures wants to portray; they’re advertising their new early game draws. However, the manner in which it is advertised is rather suggestive and offensive. There’s a particular line where the man says to the woman that he wants to “get inna di draws early”. As a woman, I find this to be rather disrespectful. The ad continues with both the male and female chatting about the Pick 3 winnings but that does little to take away from the offensive line already stated.
This shows a lack of respect for women in general. Supreme Ventures, their advertising agency and all parties involved in the pre & post production process should be ashamed of themselves. Women play an active role in society and many hold top positions, in light of this, I’m sure a woman must have had a say in the decision making process of producing this ad. Shame on her too!
Women in this country are already faced with a myriad of sexuality problems; promiscuity, sexual abuse and music that degrades them as sexual beings. Hence, we don’t need corporate Jamaica to add insult to injury by seeking cheap laughs at the expense of women.
Am I to believe that ad agencies have run out of creative ideas so they’ve resorted to slackness? We are already bombarded with slackness everywhere and we really don’t need our minds to be penetrated with anymore. Its time the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica steps in and pull this ad from our airwaves. Shame on Supreme Ventures and its production team!
