Get Your Priorities Together

One of my most recent Facebook posts created quite a stir resulting in me having to use my blog to clear up the misconceptions and further clarify the point I was trying to make.

On Friday, December 18 I visited a popular store in search of a few items. There I saw someone I’m familiar with spending $30,000 on 3 packs of false hair. Shocked at what I saw and knowing the woman’s background, it was then that I was compelled to make the post.

Within minutes after posting, the comments came flowing in. Some agreed while others saw my post as being judgemental. However, it was a comment made by colleague Adrienne Stephenson that led me to review the post and also propelled me to use this medium to clarify my point as some users were misconstrued. Being the ardent debater I am, I’m always up for a good debate with persons who are able to reason logically. I believe social media is a great platform for intellectual minds to air their concerns. However, the minute I realize you are being ignorant, is the minute I step aside as I refuse to continue arguing and be seen as a bigger fool. So to the person who commented with a series of expletives, I had no choice but to delete your comment as my page isn’t the place to air your dirty laundry.

Now with regards to spending an exorbitant amount on false hair, I have no problem with what women want to do with their money. If you work hard for it then fine, go ahead & do what you want. I have saved & splurged on Bridget Sandals & other gadgets etc. But false hair is a definite NO! Others would regard my spending as a waste while I see it as getting value for money. In fact as Adrienne & Matthew rightly put it, it takes an ambitious person to save 30K to buy false hair. However, the issue I have (which I should have stated in my post) is when women don’t have their priorities in check. My post was strictly geared towards those women who don’t work & can’t afford it yet go out of the way to get things by any means necessary to ‘floss’ & look ‘hot’. These are the same women who struggle to send their children to school, buy food & pay bills etc. Priorities is key!

I accept the criticism for being judgemental, it was a fault of mine not to be more specific. I appreciate all the comments on my Facebook status and I welcome reviews on this blog post.
