Has Reverend Lost His Mind?

At the end of this article, I know many readers will bash my thoughts but the Constitution states that we’re all entitled to freedom of expression and it is against this background that I’ve decided to use ‘Expressions of the Mind’ to share my thoughts.

The news of a Priest who washed the feet of lesbians during a church service held in Vineyard Town, Kingston recently came as a shocker to me; however, I swept it under the carpet, not giving it much thought. Then a day later, following a discussion with some colleagues and having analyzed the issue, I decided to pen a few lines. .

Many times in our quest to embrace sin and rationalize certain un-righteousness, we vilify Christians, thus missing the essence of the message they portray. While we’re all equal in the sight of the Lord, I honestly believe that Reverend Father Campbell has taken his stance on human rights a tad too far. Why? The washing of feet is a ritual performed during the sacrament of Holy Communion within most Christian denominations. Communion is reserved exclusively for persons who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour, believing in His forgiveness of their sins and renouncing the sinful ways of this world; its not a free-for-all practice. With that, I can’t fathom how a member of the clergy could wash the feet of lesbians in ‘celebration’ of what is dubbed human rights. What he has done too was open a can of worms wherein persons are now questioning his sexual orientation.

He (the priest) should understand that without forgiveness gained through Jesus, we have no rights before God. What he could have done is offer counselling to aid members of the lesbian, gay and transgender community repent of their sins. Rather than seeking acceptance for their sinful lifestyle, members of the lesbian, gay and transgender community should seek repentance.

I’m in disagreement with his actions as no sooner all homosexuals will want to partake in such a holy ritual while still living a sinful life. Yes, one might say they’re Christians who sin yet participate in feet washing but that’s a whole new ‘kettle of fish for another time’.
