Party Loan? You Must Be Dreaming…

So many have woken out of their “dreams” and are now faced with the harsh reality of how much they’ve squandered on parties during the last holiday season. While I consider myself a social butterfly, I’m mindful of how I spend my hard earned money. And no I’m not mean & cheap, I prioritize.

Recently, I came across a Gleaner article which stated that over $2.5m was granted to frivolous party-goers within the age group 18-25. I couldn’t help but shake my head at the ‘priorities’ of the young and foolish. I can guarantee that majority of these persons don’t have a savings or investment account. Here we have persons who have maxed their credit cards, persons who owe SLB, persons who constantly seek extensions on their JPS bills and persons who are struggling to make two ends meet borrowing money to live the hype life. I simply can’t fathom the thought of this. The fact that you’ve to be borrowing money to ‘floss’ for a weekend is an indicator that this lifestyle isn’t for you.

Clothes for each themed event, fancy hairstyles, accommodation and armbands are just some of the expenses that one can anticipate in order to party in fine style. Inevitably, hefty price tags are attached to these events.

I’m not implyng that one shouldn’t spend money on recreational activities but not when you’re broke ass can’t afford it! Don’t put yourself in debt just to be among the crowd. What sense does it make? After a weekend of dreaming, you’re faced with the reality of having a loan to repay with a high interest rate. Yes, your pictures on social media are slaying but there’s more to looking fleek on sleek.
