To Miss Gay Rights Activist

In light of Professor Brendan Bain’s unfortunate situation, I’m compelled to question the role of gay rights activist, Carolyn Gomes. Everyday we are bombarded with news of children being abused, some to the point of death yet Gomes doesn’t stand in their defense but as soon as a ‘fish’ is abused she quickly lashes out at the public for abusing the individual’s rights. Am I to believe that the right of a man to sleep with another man is more important than the right a child to be loved and cared for?

Here is a Brendan Bain, a man of integrity who has dedicated his life to the cause of fighting HIV/AIDS; a man of knowledge who has being fired for presenting factual findings from his research.

Carolyn, where were you when Bain worked assiduously to create the very first health centre for people living with HIV/AIDS in Jamaica? Carolyn, where were you when AIDS patients were being treated like garbage by medical professionals because of their status? Carolyn, where were you when Bain was busy saving many lives?

When the issue of HIV/AIDS was unearthed in Jamaica, it was Bain who informed the public that each human is prone to the disease depending on their sexual lifestyle. And yet, here we are bashing the same individual for openly presenting the facts.

How can gay rights advocates request that we be tolerant of their risky lifestyles yet have none for anyone who dares to march against the beat of their drums? How can they expect acceptance when they are not willing to accept the views or opinions of anyone that goes against how they think or feel? It is very sad that the rights of one group means that people now do not have the right to speak if it is not within the lines and boundaries deemed acceptable by the gay community.

It is the right of every human being to decide where he or she fits in the spectrum of things, as the world is big enough for us all to co-exist. However, as long as people who seek equal rights wish to trample on the rights of others, all that will be established is hatred, misunderstanding and chaos.

So to Miss Gay Rights Activist and the barrage of homosexuals that J-FLAG defends, please understand that the world doesn’t revolve around you and you all deserve a fine ‘flag-ging’ for thinking it does. The justice that you seek for yourselves shouldn’t be taken from others, under the disguise of your rights. That, in and of itself, is blatant hypocrisy and ignorance.
