J’Cans urged to join national protest condemning abuse

Recently, Jamaicans have had to deal with the rather shocking and disturbing news of 5 women who were raped by men in Irwin Point, St. James of which one of the victims was an 8 year old girl. Gone are those days when stories like these were prone to only countries far away from Jamaica but here it is that this ugly demon has presented itself at our doorsteps. My heart goes out to the victims and families of these 5 young ladies.

In light of this, the Office of the Prime Minster in collaboration with 15 organizations is urging all Jamaicans to stand against rape  by imploring persons to join a national protest on Friday. Coming out of a meeting yesterday the organizations all agreed to endorse a planned show-of-support protest action islandwide by Woman Inc tomorrow. This show of support will allow members of the public to express their outrage and condemnation of the continued attacks on mothers, sisters, daughters, nieces, nephews and brothers.
